~ FAQ ~
Are parents expected to help with fundraising?
As a community based, voluntary managed setting, we depend largely on the good will of parents and their involvement to keep going. We have an enthusiastic and committed management committee who undertake various fundraising activities throughout the year to supplement the income of the pre-school. Involvement from all parents is greatly encouraged!

As a parent can I come in and help during some sessions?
Yes! Joining in with a session is just one way that parents can participate in the life of St Kew Pre-School. Parents can offer to take part in a session to share their own interests and skills with the children or just to help out. We welcome parents to drop into the setting to see it at work or to speak with the staff.

What if my child needs to be given medication at Pre-School?
This can be arranged, and we have a policy to cover the administration of medication. Please speak to a member of staff about this.

Are parents expected to go on outings?
We do organise trips for the children from time to time, but these are planned well in advance to give parents adequate notice. We cannot unfortunately take responsibility for a child when on a trip or outing, so a parent or other responsible adult does need to be present.

What if my child has additional needs?
As part of the our policy to make sure that its provision meets the needs of each individual child, we take account of any special needs a child may have. St Kew Pre-School works to the requirements of the 1993 Education Act and The Special Educational Needs Code of Practice (2001). Please speak to a member of staff for more information.

Can I stay with my child during their first session / until they settle in?
Of course! We want your child to feel happy and safe with us. To make sure that this is the case, the staff will work with you to decide on how to help your child to settle into pre-school life. This may be attending a session or two with them, or gradually leaving them for a little longer each time they attend. We have a policy about helping children to settle into the pre-school, please ask a member of staff for a copy.

What happens if my child becomes ill / unsettled whilst they are at pre-school?
If your child becomes ill or unsettled whilst at pre-school, and the staff feel it neccessary, you will be contacted using the telephone numbers left on your registration sheet. If you are uncontactable on occasion and wish to leave an alternative emergency contact number, please advise a member of staff when you drop your child off at pre-school.
